Crimes agains hearing

Nov. 15th, 2008 | 01:55 pm

How wrong is it to want to listen to "hills of Los Angeles are burning" right now? My guess is very.

Just wanted to leave a note here before I shut down my computer that everything is fine with the fire so far, though I'm really disliking the winds around here. I am packing up some stuff in case we need to move, otherwise I'll just take it all with me when I go to Riverside this week. Will be shutting down computers etc. becouse of possible black outs.

Have to go back to work now (with a cute little white construction gas mask while on the way there), will try to update later.

Huh, seems like the only time I use the posting option is to let you guys know the lates California disaster.

Cheers dears,

Tavi

The evacuation has been lifted for my canyon, but the graphic still shows the whole thing in red. I'm hoping they just havn't updated the graphic yet, 'cause the last update was only a half-hour ago. If all goes well I won't have to ask relatives if they have a cot tomorrow, but will brave the weather and sleep in my own bed. And get my stuff the hell away from there in the morning. Maybe.

ETA  It's in the green now! Still some fires in the area, but evacuation has been lifted!

Fire!

Oct. 14th, 2008 | 10:01 pm
mood: hopeful hopeful

I'm kind of rethinking this whole "isn't it nice to live in California" thing.

Finally found a map of the fires and fire zones and such (to think I only had to go to the official fire department page for that one...). My house is still in the red fire hazard zon, but the update says that the evacuation restriction is lifted for people with ID's. Now I just need to convince my relatives that saving my stuff is worth going there.

The winds seem to be changing and hopefully I'll have a home to go back to this weekend. Things are looking up.

And I really wasn't kidding about the pictures. Links to anything Sectus or Terminus related? Anything?

Well, Cheers for now!

Time off

Aug. 28th, 2008 | 04:02 pm
location: the couch
mood: contemplative contemplative

Had an unexpectedly large number of free from work days. It was supposed to be Tuesday through Friday, but then someone couldn't show and they asked me to step in for a couple of hours. Who the hell am I to turn down extra hours, so it got cut to three days.

So, yesturday went to the Universal Studios. Love that place. I could give the bus tour myself (which, if I'm taking someone I usually do since I have heard more about the route than what they are telling at the moment by being there so many times over the years). Sidenote: I'm typing while watching 'Dexter", so please excuse the crappiness of this post.

Anyway, my year pass is expiring on the 11th, and as I havn't been on the Simpsons ride yet I decided it was the perfect time to go. Anyone wants to go with me again? The pass works for another couple of weeks, so just let me know.

After the lovely afternoon had to turn in my car for repairs. So at the moment I am carless. But I'm getting it back in a couple of hours, so it's all good.

Just got an e-mail from Red Cross asking for my blood. I kind of really want to go tomorrow. Think I'll make an appointment as soon as my car is back. So, before noon or after? Decisions, decisions.

Earthquake!

Jul. 29th, 2008 | 02:28 pm
mood: awake awake

Got an ok one today-- from 5.6-5.4 where I was. I was at a store and immediately went for the doorway to the shoe storage. Everyone else ran around like chickens without heads, which I found quite funny. Then everyone left the store and I stayed to chat with the sales people. The phones were down for a while so it's not like I had much better things to do, since I really didn't want to drive that soon after the shakes.
The only really worrying thing was the phones not working for a while so I couldn't check on anyone, but it was not that bad either since I knew none of them should be on the road at the time, and that is really the only dangerous thing.
Wonder if there is going to be a bigger one soon.
Did get me awake and alert.

Store clercs are strange.

Had to slow down my speech to the speed of a snail on tranquilizers to get them to point me in the direction of the casette tapes. I think it was maybe 20% my accent and 80% they just could believe someone still used those.

Or is it apricots? Not sure, but they are quite tasty. And all that needs to be done is going to the back and rip them off a tree. Love.

Toy Guns

May. 19th, 2008 | 06:06 pm

Water guns are the best thing to be carrying around on a hike right now. Even though we did end up looking like wet mice. In our heat that state doesn't last for longer then a couple of minutes anyway, so it doesn't even matter.  A water gun is now on my priority to get list.
Cheers

my poor car-zie

Apr. 30th, 2008 | 05:01 pm
mood: aggravated aggravated

I tried to get where I needed to be in the morning. I honestly did. Then my car started wobbling to the right. I spent a couple of minutes in blind panick trying to find a place to park and check what the hell was going on without becoming roadkill in the process.
Finally managed to pull into a parking lot to discover that my front right tire was out of pretty much all air. Thankfully I carry the little air pump thingie from the last time a tire went down and was able to fix it up a bit. Also, discovered the problem. The tube through which you pump the air was broken at the base, so every time I stopped pumping air into the tire it started making the horrible little loss of air noise. Quick russian thinking and ingenuity lead me to conclude that if I stuff a napking right under the base from the bottom the noise stops and my car-zie is able to move around as if undamaged. The napkin got me all the way to a neighbouring Firestone, and still held after I got a guy to look at my car.
In conclusion, I really resent having to buy a new tire. And now it's all new and shiny and completely different from my other tires, which I think will need to be replaced soon anyway. Bah.
Cheers!

On not telling

Apr. 17th, 2008 | 02:21 pm
mood: cranky cranky

I hate it when people don't tell me things that can potentially concern me. By people I usually mean immediate family.

Woke up fairly early for a person that didn't really need to be awake until 12. Brushed my teeth, etc, though left the hair alone (don't want to overdry it). Made some coffee. All's well with the world. That's all around 10.

Then our out of town guest (from Canada) akes how to turn on the shower. I'm kind of surprised, it's a regular shower head with nothing fancy on it. Turns out there's no water. Oh well, no biggie, sometimes it runs low for a little bit but gets back on track within half hour or so. The guest left to expore the city, I watched some sillines on TV, no worries so far.

By 1 I'm starting to get concerned. Still no water. Not even a little bit. Not a single drop. I havn't put on my lenses yet, so this is not good. Had to melt some ice from the fridge (which is for some unknown to me reason packed with ice cubes) to wash my hands. Kind of annoyed since I do want to take a shower in the evening or at the lates tomorrow morning, by then my hair will definately need a rinse.

Finally decide to call the authority in form of immediate family.

"Is there any reasone why we wouldn't have any water today?"

"Yeah, they are fixing pipes. No water for about five hours, maybe a bit longer, they said."

"Uh huh. And when did they say that?"

"Yesturday. There was a letter. Kind of last minute thing."

"Sure it was yesturday?"

"Yes, thre was a letter about it."

So really, how about mentioning it? Maybe saying to me that hey, if you'll need water for any rason tomorrow, there wont be any for a few hours? But, I know they don't tell me shit until it's already done, so while peeved, not really surprised. But not even telling a guest that just might like to take a shower in the morning? That I am surprised about.

feed a mole

Apr. 16th, 2008 | 10:31 am
mood: accomplished accomplished

Was walking by an open space and saw some people standing around. One guy was giving shrubs to periodically re-emerging gopher. He asked people if they wanted to try and feed it. the others declined, and I put down all my things and fed it a shrub the guy gave me. Also have a cute little video and a couple of pictures, but don't know how to get them from my cell.
When the guy left I stayed for another 20 minutes, Yoli showed up and laughed at me sitting on the ground by a hole getting the gopher to come all the way out and complaining about how greedy and obnoxious it is.  For all the rodent's little faults it was incredibly adorable.

Series

So. Torchwood.
Love after the first two episodes. Must get more soon.

On the other hand... I really don't have time to watch another long bunch of episodes of anything! Oh well, at least I'm done with the Tudors.

When does the second season of Dexter come out on DVD? *must resist looking that one up*

One of the most unpleasant things to wake up to is Sectus being cancelled.
The only plus side is that I can actually afford to buy some interesting things for some Terminus meetups.

Still, in the words of captain Jack Sparrow, "Why is the Sectus cancelled?"

Can a bunch of us still meet in UK somewhere?

HP Cards, etc.

Jan. 7th, 2008 | 02:29 pm
mood: excited excited

I love Hot Topic. It's the best store... umm... ever.

The Card Game preparation is in full swing. Bought 26 little HP card packets (8 cards in each) to be used in the game. This way the people who play will be able to keep the cards after the game is done. Of course, everythig depends on how many people participate, but I believe this will be enough with some left over.

Will anyone who is going to Terminus be able to help me work out the details of the game? I'm almost ready to submit a proposal, and will be working out how exactly the game can be conducted in the time before the propasals are to be accepted.

Other loot includes two Slytherin t-shirts, one Slytherin jacket, one D.A. jacket, "I must not tell lies" t-shirt, and Snape "Friend or Foe" t-shirt. Also a pair of most comfortable trousers I have ever owned. All together the cost came down to $65.

Got my V some fluffy socks. Next few weeks are going to be more or less like a house arrest for her.
